Do you love quilts and quilting? Then you've come to the right place! Cindy Brick, quilting teacher, quilt restorer, writer and appraiser, is an expert on old quilts and quilt history, including Crazy quilts, and often writes about them in books and magazines. She is an American Quilter's Society-certified textile appraiser and member of PAAQT, and the author of 5 books, including the FABRIC DATING KIT which has helped thousands of readers learn more about dating old quilts and fabrics.

Hanky Panky QuiltsCindy travels across the country, teaching and writing on vintage quilt topics.  Her fourth book, HANKY-PANKY CRAZY QUILTS,  is in its eleventh printing; you may have seen Cindy talking about it on "Simply Quilts."  Click here for more.  The sequel to HANKY PANKY, tentatively titled HANKY PANKY WITH A FLOURISH, is in progress. This new collection of handkerchief quilt patterns includes many hankie-related patterns that don't require cutting the handkerchiefs! We'll pass on more info on this new title soon.

THIS MONTH'S SPECIAL: Dozen Roses promotion is back! Buy $20 of any item on the Brickworks or Classy Girl pages...and we'll include a dozen ribbon roses FREE with your order. Crazy Quilts: History * Techniques * Embroidery MotifsCindy's newest book, CRAZY QUILTS, is here! It's the first history-based reference book on Crazies since 1984, and includes a how-to section on making a Crazy quilt: your choice of several different methods, from heirloom to lightning-fast!

CRAZY QUILTS came out in mid-February and sold out by early April. This edition is hot off the presses, and available RIGHT NOW!

(That's less than even Amazon charges, including shipping -- and you get Cindy's autograph, to boot! And yes, we accept paypal, VISA or MASTERCARD...or mail us a check or money order.) Or just use our handy shopping cart.  Order a book, and you'll automatically get a dozen ribbon roses during our September special!

Look for reviews of the book in upcoming issues of PIECEWORK magazine and Fons & Porter's LOVE OF QUILTING, as well as an excerpt (adapted by yours truly) in the Nov./Dec issue of QUILTER'S NEWSLETTER.

What is Cindy doing right now?  Check www.cindybrick.blogspot.com  and see!  (We're offering a dozen ribbon roses to some lucky person who comments by September 5 -- see the blog for more.)

More news: Cindy will be taping a 'Crazy Quilts' segment Sept. 6 in La Veta, CO for Alex Anderson's and Ricky Tims' 'THE QUILT SHOW.'  Want to watch? See Cindy's schedule page for contact info.

A former QUILTER'S NEWSLETTER editor, Cindy's work appears in many publications, including the QUILTING QUARTERLY (NQA) and VINTAGE QUILTS. (Look for her column, 'Old Things Considered,' in the latter.) Cindy is also a professional quilt restorer with strong ties to the Quilt Heritage Foundation and QHL.

"I love teaching people more about quilting, especially where it's been through the years," she says. "Although I've learned from slide shows, and use them myself on occasion, I believe you learn more from seeing and touching the real thing. That's why my classes and lectures include dozens of samples, from quilts, tops, blocks, and fabric to vintage paper." Look for Cindy's books, fabrics and patterns, including the GRANDMA'S QUILT PATTERNS inside. We also stock a wide range of other helpful history and needlework books and patterns, quilt restoration products, and even a little Hanky Panky. Come on in, and explore!

Don't forget our sister website, CLASSY GIRL -- you'll find kits for Crazies, helpful books and all sorts of embellishments, from charms to Treasured Memories fabric transfers. Just click on the 'Classy Girl' label on the top of the menu on this page.

Cindy's Tips

QUILTING DAMPLY

Stitching on quilts in August isn't quite the treat it can be in October...but there are ways to make it more comfortable. Try:

*dampening yourself with an occasional spritz of water from a spray bottle (helps while piecing -- but don't do it if you're quilting, and marked your top with a blue water-erase pen)

*wearing clothes straight from the washer (not making this up -- it really helps)

*work downstairs, or on a shaded patio (spread sheets, if needed, to protect your work)

*visiting museums or shows more this month...they're usually air-conditioned, and you get new ideas and inspiration!
